A Totonno's Photo Gallery

In lieu of a detailed write-up of Tontonno Pizzeria Napolitano, let us offer you this gallery of photos from a recent trip out to the venerable Coney Island pie shop. Because we enjoy the icy desolation of the boardwalk in winter, we'll be sure to make it out there again soon to give you the full low-down. Bon appetit!

You people are disgusting. May you puke up the vile of the innocent animals you consume in your "sausage pizzas" and may you get a reality check on your comments about PETA and MOVEON. They fight for justice. You jokers just think about your guts ... but that's okay you'll probably all die of cancer before Bush has blown us up anyhow!

Mmmmm, best pizza in the world. You're making me hungry.

I visit New York at least 4 times a year and never miss going to Totonno's at Coney Island. I've tried the others, and while they are very good, nothing compares to Totonno's. My daughter and I are going in a few weeks and all we can talk about is visiting Totonno's on our way in from the airport. And to answer that idiot that was defending PETA, you really need to read up on this extremist organization and find out what they are really all about before you start your tirade and insults to people that happen to like eating meat.

The best Pizza in New York City is in Queens, a small place called Margherita Pizza on Jamaica Avenue and 163rd Street makes the best pizza I have ever tasted. It is a small shop, and is constantly packed. Totonno's makes good pizza but I hate it when they burn the crust. It also takes me forever to get there from where I am.

I am a 44 year old native New Yorker who lived in Chicago for 12 years. I believe these are two of the best pizza towns in the world. In New York, thus far, Totonno's on Neptune Avenue is about the best for "gourmet pizza", i.e., pizza with high-quality ingredients cooked in a coal, brick or wood oven. I agree that the crust tends to get burnt, but I like my pizza--and pepperoni--well done.

Here are some more images from a shoot I did at Totonno's in Feb 2009 - http://danmarinophoto.com/__cl/totonnos - enjoy!

@Danny Boy I should have looked at those shots on Tuesday because I would have been as green as green can be. Those are by far the best collection of Totonno's photos I've every seen. Stunning. Simply f**kin' stunning.

@Adam I suggest you post this up top so people don't miss it. Not everyone checks the recent comments.

I also want to take the opportunity to say that ever since Joel stopped makng the pizza a couple of years or so before he passed away, I was dissatisfied with their pies. However, the last couple of times I've been there the pies were made by the guy in the hat and they were again as good as I remember. I'm looking forward to going back and getting a pie baked on the new bricks when they reopen. And once again, my hat is off to you Danny Boy.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

Thanks @Paulie - much appreciated! - I may be posting some more online soon - I plan on going through all of my shots again in anticipation of the Totonno's reopen. I am donating a piece to them for the newly renovated spot!
