Fascati Pizza

While we're in the neighborhood, let's have a look at another Brooklyn Heights pizzeria that's been garnering some good press: Fascati Pizza.

Thin is in at Slice, and that's why I liked this well-run little pizzeria. From what I've seen and eaten, Fascati is making some of the thinnest pizzas to come from a no-frills, non-coal, non-woodburning, non-brick oven. Furthermore, this shop is clean and efficient, qualities suggested by its handsome facade featuring a modern-looking sans-serif font. (Did I make it clear that I really like their signage?)

Did it blow me away? Well, I probably wouldn't make a special trip just to hit up Fascati, but if I lived in the neighborhood, they'd be on my speed dial. It's definitely a cut above the usual.

Not expecting the best, I had one plain slice to start and was impressed with the aforementioned thinness. Sauce and cheese were good, too, but I'm a big fan of the crust, so I was happy already. Maybe there's a little too much cheese. And when I went back for a one-topping slice, they merely put some pepperoni slices on top and popped it back in the oven for a minute or so, leaving the pepperonis still a little cold.

As the title of this post makes clear, this is just an initial report. I'll be going back to gather more tasting notes and will post more at a later date. For now, peruse the menu; use it as a resource if you live in the neighborhood. (Not on the menu, though, is the price per slice. It's $1.75 for a plain slice, $2.25 for one topping, and $2.75 for two toppings. Lunch special: two plain slices and a can of soda for $4. Not too shabby.)
