Billy Joel's New York Pizza State Of Mind
We never knew Billy Joel was such a big fan of pizza. Indeed, the Piano Man is such a devotee of the dish that he crashed his car yesterday during a groggy post-nap drive to procure a piece of pie.
We know what you're thinking, what with Mr. Joel's past battles with the bottle, but according to police, "there was no criminality involved" and no sign of alcohol at the crash scene. The rain-slicked road was apparently too much for his 1967 Citroen to handle. Mr. Joel was not injured in this, his third car crash in two years.
Geez Louise, doesn't Gus' Pizza deliver!?
After doing some research* on Mr. Joel's pizza consumption, we were surprised to find that he has more than just a passing fancy for the stuff. According to one website, he has a wood-burning pizza oven in his home. And, here and here are articles from Playboy and the Daily News, respectively, in which he mentions pizza.
Perhaps one of the strangest Billy Joel–pizza pairings we found, though, was the Boldface Names item from the March 18, 2004, New York Times in which Mr. Joel talks of having a "pizza fight" in the studio while talking to Michael Jackson on the telephone.
