Ready! ... OK!

A couple of related stories for you this morning out of Texas. And they involve cheerleaders, so we couldn't resist running them (nor can we resist chortling like Beavis and/or Butthead). In the first-day lede, from yesterday, we learn that police were called out to break up a fight at an annual cheerleader pizza-eating contest. According to San Antonio's ABC affiliate KSAT-TV:

Things got out of hand shortly after Churchill High School cheerleaders were named the winner of this year's competition, which kicks off festivities for the Gucci Bowl football game between Churchill and Clark high schools.

While the celebration was going on, food and cups started flying across a table and words were exchanged. At one point an unidentified student climbed on a table and that's when employees from Double Dave's Pizza had to help quiet things down. ... Despite the incident, the owner of the pizza parlor said he would hold the event again, but with tighter security.

But according to today's second-day lede, there might not be any more Gucci Bowl Pizza-Eating Cheerleader contest. KSAT reports that Churchill will no longer participate in the event.

And so Slice's obsession with pizza-eating cheerleaders is over before it even began.

But we can still look at American Cheerleader magazine, whose Snapshot of the Month provided our main art for this entry.

(For those of you looking for New Haven Part Two, keep checking back. I swear it'll be up soon. Things been busy 'round the Slice HQ.)
