Amazing what a phone call can clear up. Slice just rang off with the Joe's on the corner of Bleecker and Carmine. The owner there informed us that, "Yes. I think it's closing. Yes."

There was some hedging in there, so we went down to Joe's for lunch today, where it was confirmed that Joe's is indeed closing the corner location. Fans of the little joint will be glad to know that the location three doors down will remain open. And, yes, it's the same owner, not some Ray's/Famous Ray's/Original Rays thing.

We asked about the L&O scene that was mentioned on Curbed. It was filmed inside Joe's, so the pizza shop will be more than just the architectural equivalent of an extra.

holy crap! that's nuts. i remember when the slice there was like $1.25. and how slices usually mirror the cost of a token. and how joe's was the first to go up faster than a subway ride. crazy!

has anyone been recently? has anyone been to Abitino's (ok, it is better than Sbarro, but Tad's is better than Sizzler, too) where Joe's used to be? it's reliable, it's outside the West 4th stop, now even closer, and if you don't have the patience or $ to wait in line for some hipster creation at the new,Amy's or Murray's, who has a better suggestion. Murray's still has amazing stuff, FYI, only now you need to have a back-up plan in case you can't get one to the staff that really knows their stuff AND has time to spend with you.
