Maria's Pizza
Grandma Slice sent me this clipping from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel a couple weeks ago. I figured I better scan it and get it up on the site before she thinks I'm ignorning her.
I was born in Milwaukee and have family there, and most times when we'd visit, Pa Slice would insist on a trip to Maria's. Maria's is wacky and it's definitely not New Yorkstyle pizza. I'll let the newspaper clipping speak for me. Click on it to enlarge and read.

Thanks for this post. I missed this article in the JS but I've been meaning to make it out to Maria's for a while. Now I'm definitely giving it a try.

A listing of great pizzas in Wisconsin is not complete with mention of Zafiro's in Milwaukee and Il Ritrivo in Sheboygan. Zafiro's makes a very thin crust pizza. The crust is almost cracker-like. They've been cranking them out since 1953 and are a favorite of Milwaukeeans. Il Ritrivo in Sheboygan prepares a Neapolitan-style pizza. These are from any of the American traditional styles of pizza. Ritrivo's crusts are perfect, made from specially chosen wheat flour and allowed to proof for two days. Toppings are creatively chosen and lightly applied.
