It's four days in to the holiday shopping season. Did you make some headway on that gift list over the weekend?
Naughty's a snap: A bag of Kingsford should do you. For the nice: A slice.
If you have any expatriate New Yorkers on your list or anyone who loves New York pizza and can't get it, you might want to make like Santa and try delivering a few pies to them. (There's nothing stopping you from delivering them to yourself, either.) Slice has three options for you:
Rocco's Pizza: Bay Ridgebased Rocco's offers four 12-inch pies (left) delivered overnight. The pizzas are "plain" (translation for nonNew Yorkers: no toppings, just cheese), shipped via UPS in a package equipped with leakproof refrigerant gel packs. The pies will be frozen on arrival, with reheat instructions included, so recipients can either pop them into a preheated oven or deep-six them for enjoyment later. Cost: $74.25 $39 for four pies plus $35.25 shipping.
FlyingPizza.com: Eddie's New York City Pizza, based in Brooklyn's Sunset Park, offers 18-inch plain pies. According to its website, "The pies are sealed in special packaging that allows you to remove individual slices from your refrigerator or freezer as you need them." You can order as few as one pie or packages of four, eight, or 12 pies. Shipping (FedEx 2nd Day Air) is included in the price. Order online or by phone: 800-969-NYPIES Cost: One pie, $19.95; four pies, $64.92; eight pies, $124.96; 12 pies, $179.40
IWantNYPizza.com: This site offers pizza from a network of New York statebased pizzerias. You order a pie, and your order is "routed to a participating pizzeria" and shipped via second-day delivery on iced gel packs. IWantNYPizza.com delivers Sicilian pies in addition to the regular round pies. It also offers a "Pizza of the Month" option and a "Make Your Own NY Pizza" four-pie pack comprising dough, sauce, cheese, and seasonings. Cost: One regular pie, $17.98 plus $31 shipping; One Sicilian pie, $19.99 plus $31 shipping; Make Your Own NY Pizza, $49.99 plus $31 shipping.
Hey Adam... Thanks for the info. I think this would be the perfect Xmas gift for friends in California!!! We all know they are in need of NY Pizza. Anyways.. Rocco's is whom I will be ordering from. I like the overnight delivery rather than the 2 days! I will leave feedback.
You really need to check out Marcello's Pizza in N. Babylon NY. They make a true Brox Pie and it is the best I have every eaten. It is nice to fince a slice of home right on LI.
Well, Gang, a sad day, indeed. After searching high & low at my local Kosher marts here in L.A., and tearing up the WWWeb and the phone lines, it looks like Eddie's NYC Pizza (flyingpizzas.com) is outta business. They are nowhere to be found. Their website's down, and their phone numbers are out of service. If anyone has any info to the contrary, please post it here. I'd be glad to be proven wrong. They were the best of the frozen. A real pie from the city, as they would say, and boy, will I miss them...
Just saw a new New York mail order place, It is called New York Flying Pizza. It is not same pizza as the original flying pizza, http://www.nyflyingpizza.com/
I went for the 4 pizza party combination. It includes 3 different types od pizza. The cost was 79,85 plus shipping and handling of 14.92. In my case I was able to opt for ground UPS since I live in Philadelphia. Other shipping methods are more expensive. It arrived in 2 days. The pizzas were cold not frozen. I don't think they freeze their pizzas.
I baked them on a pizza oven and they were very tasty. The crust was thin and soft and the cheese bubbly. I have only tried the Neapolitan so far.
I will posted again after I tried the other 2 types.
