$1 Slices in Times Square

From the New York Times:

Then there’s the bargain block: Ninth Avenue between 41st and 42nd Street. On the corner of 41st is the ivory-billed woodpecker of the pizza industry: a dollar-a-slice shop. Take good video, or your hometown pizza-guzzlers won’t believe you.

Is $1 pizza unusual? It's common to find $0.94 pizza slices (with tax it's $1) around Vancouver, though it's hard to get just plain cheese pizza.

I love it! Jimmy and Swanee get their picture in the paper. How fitting that Jimmy's ends up on Slice.

Karen: Yes. $1 pizza is unusual in NYC. It's now around $2 a slice. Unofficially, pizza prices seem to follow the cost of a subway fare. Whenever the MTA here raises the fare, all the papers write stories about how the two costs seem to mirror each other.
