Slice's New Favorite Song: 'Dom'

An awesome email from the Slice inbox today:

Dear Slice folks,

My name's James, and I'm a fan of your site. Waaaaay back around 2001 or 2002, I wrote and recorded a song. It's called "Dom," and it is about a certain pizzaman in Brooklyn, about whom you know a little something. It's a little out of date now.

Listen to "Dom":

Dom

I know the guy that makes the bestest pie in town
His ass is not under the bridge
You will not find him in Coney Island
You will not find him in Bay Ridge

None of the hipsters know his name
None of the hipsters know his name

He wouldn't have to try
To make superior pie but
He is the man, that's what he does
(Dom)

And sure as hell he'll make you wait for half an hour
Just like a lady makes you wait
And you don't know what waiting is
You don't know what waiting is

He wouldn't have to try
To make superior pie but
He is the man, that's what he does

Of course, now the wait's an hour and a half and everybody and their grandmother knows his name. I may have to record a new version of the song reflective of these developments.

About the songwriter: James William Roy lives in Brookyn, works in Manhattan, sells antique maps, plays punk rock, and eats his pizza where he lives. He says, "My lovely wife and I used to eat at Di Fara when we could get in the door."

Speaking of punk rock, James also points out this page on musician Mike Watt's website, where Watt says: "there's a five hour layover at jfk in nyc so my buddy juan rosenfelder drives to the 'port and takes me to brooklyn to have some righteous pizza at di fara's on 15th and j. this is some fucking happening peetz! I get just cheese and 'shrooms but there's lots of olive oil too - no grease though! this is a fucking fine shovel."

Thanks for the links and the use of the song, James! "Dom" is great. It's not surprising that someone would have written a tune about the guy.
