Breaking: Di Fara to Reopen This Week?

I just got an email from Maggie DeMarco with an update in the Di Fara situation:

  • Maggie contacted the DOH lawyer, and they worked some things out. Di Fara will not have to go to court on the 14th.
  • Dom won't have to go to the food protection course, the main reason for the closure, but they had to sign new stipulations
  • Di Fara will have to keep its doors and window closed as part of those stipulations
  • They need to do tons of paperwork yet for the city, which will then send an inspector -- "hopefully Monday" ... "so we are looking at reopening by Wednesday or Thursday"

All things considered, a reasonable resolution to a difficult problem. The DOH seemed intent on making an example of Dom, but then realized what he represents to New York. Now, if we can only get a quick and democratic resolution to the Red Hook Soccer Field vendor situation.

It's gonna be one hot, long, sweaty wait now. :( Windows are good.

Listen...I love Dom and DiFara's, but why do they think they don't have to abide by the same rules every other similarly beloved restaurant does? Donovan's, Spicy Mina, Shake Shack, Babbo...all the spots that make this city swoon have to play by the same rules. It's the price of serving food to the public.

Good luck with that - Let's hope for the best!

Wait ! there's a green peas ad on this site. What the ___

So, I was thinking this downtime would have been a good time for Dom to come over to Houston st. and help his son out for a few days. That pizza is bad!

Dom DeMarco - the Paris Hilton of Pizza - above the law. Sad.

It's not a question of Dom being above the law. Sometimes the law is wrong -- or the law needs to be applied with a modicom of common sense. Cutting fresh basil on a pizza with bare hands should not be against the law -- provided his hands are clean (that he doesn't handle money).
