Di Fara Reopening: 'Could Be Tuesday'

20070615difarastillclosed.jpg

I just got off the phone with Dom DeMarco, proprietor of Di Fara, looking for an update on the reopening.

The Dominator confirms that the joint is not open as of today—they're still waiting on an inspector to come out and give them the go-ahead. If that happens today, they'll reopen on Monday.

But Dom's take was that the city would be more likely to send someone out Monday, slating the pizzeria for a Tuesday reopening.

Never been to Di Fara yet, but this saga sure is fun to follow from out West, where we have like one real pizza joint per million square miles. I luv ya, New York. Can't wait to get back there again........

just got back from DiFara where I had a conversation with Dom through the back door. He was griping a bit and said that he had to go to DOH tomorrow (Tuesday) and should be open by Wednesday. I've got my fingers crossed (and stomach growling).

I am sure that the guy makes great pizza, but I heard at one time that he didn't even have someone to wipedown the tables at the place. For all I know this still may have not changed. While I respect the man's refusal to compromise when it comes to the integrity of his food; it is this same obstinance that is going to place his business in jeopardy, if he refuses to comply with basic standards of cleanliness. Also, I do not see what the big deal is about keeping his door closed. Other destination pizza spots like Sally & Pepe's have long lines and keep the door closed until they have a seating. People will always go through an added inconvenience for great food.
