From the Field: Zuppardi's Apizza

Just got the following email, with the photo at left, from homeslice Philip G.: "I'm inside this place right now.... Will report back."

Fifteen minutes later the photo at right zooms through with the following message: "Typical (and amazing) [New Haven] apizza. Its like Pepe's, minus the shitty wait times." (A photo of Zuppardi's interior follows after the jump.)

Philip G. has provided numerous tips, so much so that I'm going to nickname him "PG Tips." (The Brits and Anglophiles among you will get that.)

Zuppardi's Apizza

must order with sausage.. large chunks of perfectly spiced, local made meat define the classic zupp's pie. oh, and also must be noted that this place has the best frozen to-go pizzas i've ever sampled.

Man, goodbyeohio, I was eyeing the forzen pies and the sauces and stuff and knew I should have picked something up.

Tips for the future, I guess.

While growing up in West Haven, Zupp's was the center of the Apizza universe. After all these years and after many a great pie it still easily ranks in the top five. My personal ranking of the greatest in the greater New Haven area are: 1) Modern (on State St.) 2) Frank Pepe's 3) Zuppardi's 4) Mike's (also in West Haven) 5) all the rest!!

I live about 10 minutes away (Milford) from Zuppardi's and upon reading this blog I knew I had to try it. I've already done the rounds in New (as well as Roseland) I was looking for something closer to my house - every time I'd try to make a Pepe's run the pie would be cold by the time I made it back!

Ordered myself a medium broccoli pie yesterday for the Super Bowl & chowed down just as they were kicking off.

Friendly service, hardly any waiting time for my order and need I say that the 'abeets' was fantastic? I gotta try a tomato pie now!

Highly recommended, and the wife didn't get sick - which is usually how we judge our pizza places... :)

^^ should be 'done the rounds in New *Haven*'... ^^

The real Zuppardis moved to Vermont A couple of years ago!

Is the color off on that photo of the pizza itself, looks cheddary.
