That's Amore: 'Not the Sausage I Really Want'

In which Slice wades waist-deep into the plaintive muck of Craigslist's Missed Connections in search of pizza-related longing. Such is the swamp of love that spawns That's Amore. —The Mgmt.

  • Cute Girl on F Train Sitting Next to Me, I Got Off at Jay St. - m4w - 27: I was wearing a camel hair coat and a striped cap and reading the Economist (sort of) and looking at your sneakers-- too shy to look up. You got on in Lower Manhattan and I got off at Jay St- we looked at each other when I went to the C. Want to get pizza?
  • Vinnie's Pizzaria - We Smiled and Said Goodbye Saturday - w4m - 29: I was the girl with the bangs and a guy friend eating vegan pizza rolls. You were an adorable Jonathan Silverman-type with brown hair, brown eyes reading a science or electronics (?) magazine at the table across from me. We kept looking back and forth at each other, smiled and we both said goodbye when you walked out the door. I'd love to take you out around town!
  • Smiley Pizza - m4w - 40: Sunday afternoon, you with your kids. You sneezed and I said "Bless You" and borrowed your oregano. I couldn't keep my eyes off you. Would love to meet for coffee.
  • Hot Guy at Pizza Plus - m4m - 28: Hey I know this is a long shot because I don't even think you are gay. You're the young hot guy that works at Pizza Plus. You're tall with dark brown hair. I come in to pick up food a few nights a week and you always wait on me. I'm 5'8" light brown hair and blue eyes with a brown jacket- I usually order a small pizza with extra cheese and sausage- but thats not the sausage I really want! If you see this put some special sauce on my pizza next time! lol.
  • Cute brunette girl at crocodile lounge who gave me her pizza ticket - m4w: You generously gave me your pizza ticket after I offered to beg for it. (I think you would have enjoyed watching me beg.) You were coy, yet invitingly conversational. Your soft eyes belied something captivating just under the surface. Yet all too soon, you were back in the comfort zone by your friends. I would have enjoyed seeing what else your eyes might have told me.
  • Hoboken Boy- 6pm, 5'10, blonde, long black coat, ipod and rzr phone - m4m - 22: So this was about 6:15pm the Friday rush, caught eyes coming out of the path at Hoboken. You're a dirtyish blonde (cutely parted), 5'10, long black coat (business attire), ipod in ears and a razor phone. Lost you at washington st (sry, was cravin impostos pizza like whoa) Me, 5'9 brown hair, black glasses, same dress attire...walked beside you up the stairs and behind you on the streets. Thought you were cute as hell ...had to roll the dice and try my luck. Otherwise I'll be lookin forward to rush hour from now on ;)
  • redhead at smoothie king at Penn station - m4w (Midtown): Thursday around 3:30... Red hair, black jeans, eating a slice of pizza at smoothie king in Penn station.... Maybe you'll see this?
  • Plane from Rome on Sunday, Jan 20th - You look like Mathieu Amalric - 31: We talked while waiting in line for customs. I enjoyed the conversation and I'd love to talk more. I wish I had gotten your information then... Maybe we could meet for pizza?
  • Six Dollar Slice and Soda? - m4w - 48: You were on line at Sbarro's. Sunday, January 27. Dark brown hair. Blue jeans. Dark red nail polish. J-Jill Bag. Very nice hair cut. It looks great on you. Then I spoke to you in Bloomingdale's. Would you like to meet for coffee or tea? If not, you're a very attractive woman. Take care. John

While growing up in West Haven Zupp's was the center of the Apizza universe. After all these years and after many a great pie it still easily ranks in the top five. My personal ranking of the greatest in the greater New Haven area are: 1) Modern (on State St.) 2) Frank Pepe's 3) Zuppardi's 4) Mike's (also in West Haven) 5) all the rest!!
