Dear Slice: Good Delivery Pizza for Office at 26th and 11th Avenue?

Clicking in to the Slice inbox today, we've got ...

Dear Slice, Letters From Our ReadersI want to get pizza for lunch for Jaime B.'s going-away party.

Is Waldy's any good? How many people can I feed w/one of his large pies? (Any guesses? I know I can call and ask.)

What about Pizza Suprema—how many can I feed with one of their larges?

I still have horrible memories of my attempt to treat Adam w/pizza from Lazzara’s on his bday at Blueprint, and not having nearly enough food.

Is there anyone else you’d suggest? (Am I too far away from Lazzara’s to ask them to deliver?)

What about "Co.," Adam—any indication that it has actually opened? (I can walk past on my way home, I suppose.)

Dear Talley,
Waldy's blows. Crust is tough and yech. It's expensive and wouldn't feed many people.

Pizza Suprema is good. How many people are you feeding? A large is large enough. One slice per person = 8 people. You could probably ask them to cut it into 16 slices, though, but you'd probably want to go with traditional 8-slice cut.

I would suggest, for 16 people, 1 large regular pie and 1 large "upside down" pizza. (The upside down pie is one of my favorites at Suprema.)

If you have more than 16 or 16 hungry people, I'd suggest 3 pies. 1 Large regular, 1 large upside down, and 1 large regular with some sort of topping.

Lazzara's is good, but even their large pies are very small and only feed 6 people. (6 slices) And they're expensive.

I would go with Suprema. I'd imagine they'd deliver to your office.

Hasta la pizza,
Adam

I tried to order Lazzara's delivery once (to 48th & 6th) and they told me they would do it, but I would have to pay for the pizza delivery person's cab ride. Pretty funny... sounds to me like they will deliver anywhere as long as you're willing to pay.

That may change when they open their new location on 9th Ave. in the 40s, which looks like it will be primarily take out and delivery.

I made a trip into the city yesterday to pick up some guanciale at Salumeria Belleise on 8th and 29th for my pizza tasting this Saturday. On my way back to PATH, I passed NY Pizza Suprema. When I saw their sign that read something like "One of NYC's 10 Best", I said to myself "Yeah, right", gimme a f**kin' break". So what's the first thing I see when I log onto Slice?!?!?!? I guess I shudda stopped for a slice.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

Don't get too excited, Paulie Shore, NYPS is good, as Adam said, not great. It is far from one of the city's 10 best, but it is solid for that side of town. Their sauce is so heavy it'll knock you on your ace. The west side leaves a lot to be desired with respect to good pizza, especially from the 20s through 40s.

@DJ Bubbles Thanks for the advice. My expectations would have been low in any case. A slice joint is a slice joint. Except of course for New Park Pizza. I do know what you mean about the West Side, but according to SliceMeister Adam, help is on the way with that Lahey guy. We'll see. Oh and one other thing, DJ. I ain't no Paulie Shore.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

If forced to name a "slice only" joint in Manhattan, NYPS would be really high on my list.

I'm fairly confident that the best pizza in your vicinity is Patsy's on 23rd b/t 8th & 9th. Dunno if they deliver, but I think it'd be more than worth it to hoof the five or six blocks to get some decent pies for your homies.

Let me make this simple folks. NY Pizza Suprema is one of the BEST pizzerias in NY by far! From the all the different sauces they make, I think they make 3 different kind, to the Grande mozz. and imported Italian Romano Pecorino cheeses on their pies, a PERFECT 10!!!! A TOP 10 IN NYC! DEFINITELY!

Let me make this simple folks! NY Pizza Suprema is most definitely deserving of TOP 10 PIZZAS IN NYC. From what I understand, they make 3 different types of sauces, all made from nice chunky tomatoes. They use Grande mozz, and imported Romano Pecorino from Italy. All that on a freshly made dough and cooked to an almost well done crust, makes a TOP 10 pizza for me! Now if you happen to be a sauce hater, then you have some personal issues with pizza in general. If you like a tasteless red paste that 99% of other so called pizzerias use, then NYPS is not for you! Have a regular slice, followed by an upside down sicilian and close up shop with a fresh mozz. with basil slice! You will be eating pizza there every day practically for months after this experience. I should know, 25 years later, I'm still having pizza there practically 4-5 times a week, hence the name, pizzapizza! ENJOY NYPS!!!!

Mmm ... Let's have a slice! It's on Martha!
