Opening Soon: Brick Oven Pizzeria in Chinatown

Clicking in to the Slice inbox we got this bit of intel from Slice reader and frequent commenter Brian Preston-Campbell.

Dear Slice, Letters From Our ReadersNot sure if anyone else has given you any intel on this, but I was driving back into the city last night and came down Worth Street to turn left onto the Bowery. While I was waiting for my light to change, I noticed that there's a sign in the restaurant window at the corner of Worth and Bowery (in the very heart of Chinatown, mind you) that says, "Coming soon, brick oven pizzeria." I don't have any further details since I was in the car and it was raining heavily at the time. Might be something, who knows.

Regards,
Brian

Dear Brian,
This is the first I'm hearing about it. Chinatown is on my way home. I'll stop by tonight and see what I can dig up. Sounds like welcome news to anyone living or working in Chinatown, as Mosco Pizza, the lone slice outpost in the neighborhood, closed down. Let's hope they do slices as well as pies. Interesting location, I give you that.

Hasta la pizza,
Adam

That's sorta my neighborhood, and it could be a brilliant location if the pizza turns out good. Look at all the cops with Police Plaza right there, as well as the hordes of tourists, some of whom may even want to duck in for a slice instead of the sublime wontons at Great New York Noodletown - or at least a slice to shut the kids up.

okay, even though i live up on bayard, i'm hardly down that way and (gasp!) rarely order pizza (hey, i live in chinatown!), but last i checked, on park row just south of worth, there's a very serviceable place called "baby o." it's right near the chinatown fitness gym. he's got a grandma pie and seems like a nice guy, and his pizza is above average.

mosco was dreadful.

so until this new place opens, you've got another to check out.

i checked out the pies at baby-o last week. Looked real good. I stared for about 2 minutes straight. Unfortunately, my stomach was already filled with about 6 slices. Next time...

@Adam: I wish I would have known you were planning to post this, I was just in the area on Saturday and coulda swung by to get more details. Wow, now I feel like a slice celeb instead of a lurker.

This is a bugaboo of mine. Fine it's a brick oven. But is it gas fired, coal or wood? Gas doesn't really get hot enough & I always thought it was the fuel that really mattered.
