Anselmo's Coal-Oven Pizza Progress Report

What would be New York City's latest coal-oven pizzeria, Anselmo's Pizzeria Restaurant, looks like it's making some progress after failing to meet its previously stated July 4 opening target.

Says the Red Hook pizzeria's Roger Fischer, "I'm 90 percent done. The oven is taking a long time to build."

From everything I've ever read or heard about custom oven jobs, they always take longer than expected. A couple more pix, after the jump.

Coal? That is the new odor I smell on Van Brunt? They are going to burn coal across the street from P.S. 15? Doesn't coal burning cause cognitive problems in children? At what level is mercury toxic? Would burning wood be as bad?

BOOO. We don't take too kindly to yer kind round these here parts, Mercury. This is coal country.

Just went by there today and things didn't look very different. Come on pizza, where ya at?!?

The coal i am burning is low sulfur coal and very safe and no odor. You can't smell the coal burning or see smoke because it's smokeless. My coal is very safe.

not to mention that mercury's links discuss coal-burning power plants, not pizza ovens. also, as far as van brunt goes, smoke would be a welcome change from most of the odors i've encountered there.

That was Mercury's one and only comment. Whatevs.

Mercury is a toxic metal, too, I believe.
