Closings: Joe & Joe in Kensington, Brooklyn

bug-qb-slice-cryingslice.jpg"Kensington favorite Joe and Joe Pizza, at 121 Church Avenue, bit the dust a couple of months back; the Sicilian focacceria had a Grandma pizza that was to die for." [Brownstoner]

I grew up just a couple of blocks from there and as some posters may know, I'm a big fan of focaccerias. If I had known about it, I would have made a return and checked it out. BTW, when I was growing up the only thing that was called Kensington was the post office.

Paulie: What did you call it back then if not "Kensington"?

@Adam That was the problem. It's wedged between the much better known neighborhoods of Flatbush and Boro Park. Most people would choose one of those two, but many just said they lived around Church and MacDonald. Similarly, I rarely if ever heard the term Ditmas Park and certainly not South Prospect Park.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee
