Dear Slice: Where Can I Get Good Early-Morning Pizza?

Clicking in to the Slice inbox today, we've got a question about early-morning pizza.

Dear Slice, Letters From Our ReadersHey there. I love the Slice blog. Keep up the good work.

I do have a question though. Would you happen to know of anywhere in Manhattan that a decent pizza can be obtained at 6 a.m.? I work from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., but I'm usually up from 3 a.m., so by 6 to 8 a.m. or so I'm ready for "lunch." Even a decent place open by 10 a.m. would be nice.

Thanks in advance,
Drew

Dear Drew,

This is one I get a lot—but usually in the form of "where can I find good late-night pizza?" These questions are almost the same.

Unfortunately, I have limited intel on good early-morning or 24-hour pizza. I know a few good options for late-night/wee hours pizza (Vinny Vincenz in the East Village is open till 1 a.m. on weeknights, for instance).

Before I moved here (June 18, 2000), I would have imagined there'd be any number of good pizza options around the clock, but sadly, I found out, that's not the case. Especially at 6 a.m.

Still, I'm going to open this one up to the homeslices out there. Can anyone help Drew with this? Is there any good pizza available at 6 a.m. or even 10 a.m.?

Hasta la pizza,
Adam

New Lazzara's is open 24/7.

I had read the same thing about the new Lazzara's somewhere. Couldn't have been right here on Slice. Unless of course the SliceMeister is not reading his own posts.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

Great Burrito on 23rd and 6th is open 24-hours. I've never had the pizza there (it looks okay - probably an average slice) but their tortas/burritos/tacos/etc are fantastic.

@pauliegee: D'oh! SliceMeister is forgetful, what with burger, pizza, and Serious Eats posts to write and/or edit! Thanks for the reminder on Lazzara's, folks!

the 99c slice place on 43rd st is open in the morning. before moving to a different office building i got into a bad habit of stopping there for breakfast

Sullivan Street Bakery opens at 8 in the morning and has some of the best pizza in New York.

grandaisy (http://grandaisybakery.com/) opens at 7, though i think I like sullivan st better

Thanks to everyone for your answers and thanks to Adam for posting my question...I'll definitely be checking a few of those places out, even the burrito place...I was never big on 'breakfast food' so I'll eat pizza, sandwiches, burgers, etc any time of day...

Well, so much for that idea...Stopped by Lazzara's this morning around 7:30 and they were closed...They do have a sign in the window posting the hours but it doesn't make much sense...It's your standard sign that shows open from X AM to X PM and you write in the times...Every day showed 12 to 12 except fri and sat which show 12 to 4...I dunno...
