Five Years Ago on Slice

A screen grab from the Slice archives:

Five years ago to the date, if not the minute.

I was just looking at past Thanksgiving posts on the site and found this one. The sentiment remains the same, if not the travel plans. I'm staying in New York this year but eating turkey nonetheless. Pizza is for after the holiday, when I'm sick of the bird.

There is no NYC style pizza in Milwaukee. There is some good pizza here though. Try Ann's Italian Pizza in Hales Corners, it's probably the best taste in town. Or any of the following are very good and different in style. Balistreri's in Wauwatosa (76th st), Mr D's II in West Allis (off Hwy 100), Maria's Pizza on Forest Home Ave (check out the paint-by-numbers "paintings" and bouffant hairdo waitresses), or DiMarini's in Bayview. Milwaukeeans generally prefer cracker-style crusts for some reason that I will never understand. (See Maria's or DiMarini's above). I'm from Chicago originally, don't like deep-dish Chicago pizza, but still love Lou Malnati's back home. Here I like Ann's and especially Mr D's (Special).

Enjoy your trip here. Go to the theatre, symphony or ballet. High quality arts scene here. Save trying a bratwust for summertime when you can enjoy the outdoors. If you want seasonal holiday food, try the roast goose at Karl Ratzch's. (German food).

@jdenny: Thanks for the tip, but I don't think you read the post above closely enough. The bit about "Leave Those Turkeys Alone" is a screen grab from a post from five years ago. Below that ... oh, never mind.
