Closing (But Possibly Reopening): Isabella's Oven

Isabella's Oven, which started out amazing but then went to merely good with the loss of its original pizzaiolo, is "closed until further notice" while the owners search for a new location. The sign posted in the window there projects a spring 2009 reopening date. Eater has some more details.

Those eater commenters are harsh. Why so hateful Eater readers?

I never had the opportunity to eat there, but the pizzaiolo they mention who went back to Italy was Luigi Olivella, who along with his brother Salvatore opened 28 Carmine prior to Luigi's stint at Isabella's. I can't vouch for their pizza, but I can tell you in no uncertain terms that the best bialys in New York City can be had next door at www.kossarsbialys.com .

Ciao,
