'New York Daily News' on The Obama Pizzarama

Diehard Slice readers have already seen this story—about the pizzeria the Obama family frequented in their Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago and how that joint, Italian Fiesta Pizzeria, will be serving pies at the inauguration. Heck, we even went and sampled the place: Italian Fiesta Pizzeria: The Obamas' Chicago Pizza Favorite, Reviewed

The New York Daily News wrote about it yesterday, in a story that doesn't really update us on much. I do, however, want to point out this passage:

President-elect Barack Obama and his bride, Michelle, are big fans of Italian Fiesta pizza, a specialty of Chicago's South Side that has a chewy, buttery, slightly sweet - and very thin crust.

It features offbeat toppings like chicken, shrimp and jalapeño peppers in addition to the traditional sausage and pepperoni.

"We're still trying to figure out what their favorite kind of pizza is," said co-owner Patti Harris-Tubbs. "I heard from somebody that they might like our vegetable pizza."

The writer uses the same weird wording—"bride"—that George W. Bush used when he first congratulated President-elect Barack Obama on his historic victory in Election 2008. May I point out that bride is defined as a woman just married or about to be married.? The correct word choice here would have been wife.

And since when are chicken or jalapeno peppers unusual toppings?!
