Sbarro May Not Survive 2009, Says 'Yahoo Finance'

Fifteen Companies That Might Not Survive 2009: "Sbarro. (Privately owned; about 5,500 employees). It's not the pizza that's the problem. Many of this chain's 1,100 storefronts are in malls, which is a double whammy: Traffic is down, since consumers have put away their wallets. Sbarro can't really boost revenue by adding a breakfast or late-night menu, like other chains have done. And competitors like Domino's and Pizza Hut have less debt and stronger cash flow, which could intensify pressure on Sbarro as key debt payments come due in 2009." [via @nungerleider]

Maybe if the stuff was a little more reasonably priced, the kids that frequent the malls could afford it.

That's a bummer. Hopefully, things turn out ok. Their pizza is pretty good and so reminiscent of mall fare.

The worst thing is that Loehmann's might go under! YIKES! Where will I get cheap Armani?

There used a Sbarro on Michigan Avenue in Chicago in a food court. It was a sweet setup - unlimited sodas, great bread and the chicken parmesan was excellent.

But it went away 2 years ago or so.

Yup...'za is too pricey. They are toast.

'za? People still say that?

only if they are really obnoxious or just on a mission to annoy me.

the only thing i liked about sbarro's was that they served beer so no big loss there.
