Dom DeMarco in Pizza Hall of Fame

20090302-dom.jpg

PMQ, a trade magazine for pizzerias, will induct Di Fara's Dom DeMarco into its Pizza Hall of Fame tomorrow. From the Daily News:

"Dom [DeMarco] has been at his ovens every day for decades," said [PMQ publisher Steve] Green. "He's so picky about everything—he'll have the place filled with customers waiting 20 minutes for him to make their pie, but he's oblivious to all that. They'll wait."

The announcement was made at the 2009 International Restaurant and Foodservice Show at Javits Center this past weekend.

Obviously Steve Green has never been to Di Fara. It would be nice if customers had to wait only 20 minutes.

That's great, he deserves it. Congrats Dom!!

is di fara open on tuesdays? i wanna come up from philly. open for lunch?

Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, lunch from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; dinner from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Closed Mondays. They ask that you place all orders before 8:30 p.m.

I just recently made the trek to DiFara's about two weeks ago. I am loathe to admit it, but the pizza is exceptional, the best I've ever had, be it New York style or Neapolitan, or Chicago style, whatever. Again: best pizza ever. The scene inside the shop is ridiculous though. I ordered a couple slices and it was relatively quick actually, but the jockeying for position at the counter, the chaotic ordering process, the masses of anxious people, the monkey business with the locking of the door, the mess inside the shop and lack of seating, all really detracted from the experience. I did go on a Sunday afternoon at around 4pm, probably the worst time to be there. If I ever go back, it will be on a weekday, and as close to noon as possible.

just got back from a nyc pizza trip. went to difara for the first time. easily the best in nyc. i love everything about this place. it was the juiciest pizza that ive ever eaten. god bless that man. then we went to co. its a nice place and the food was good, but its kind of a rip off. it made me think that una pizza is a better deal? i probably won't go back. can't stop thinking of difara anyway. you guys should do a story on tacconellis in philly. let me know if you need pics or info. it's like the difara of philly, except not nearly as good.

Adam

You should do a post to find out who's waited the longest for a pie from Dom. I'll go first: 2 hours 15 minutes.
