Locked In for the Night at Di Fara

20090318-lockedin.jpg

I think this has been reported on the blogs or on Chowhounds before, but with the new Di Fara hours (instituted after Dom DeMarco's knee surgery), they essentially lock you in at or shortly after 8:30 p.m. Johnny- and Janey-come-lately are, in turn, locked out while Dom serves the remaining crowd inside.

It's a bit sad to see didn't-make-its pull at the door handle and get shooed away by the gloating crowd inside, but what can you do. I also noted a fair amount of schadenfreude at the expense of the slowpokes.

I was there on Sunday night to help out a friend. She was taking part in an insane NYC food scavenger hunt. Getting a picture with me outside Di Fara was worth 25 points (35, if you count the other 10 for getting a picture with me in general).

I'm not even going to blab about the pizza. You already know about it. But here are some pizza porn shots for you to gawk at.

And, would you look at that! Someone stuck a Slice sticker on the door at Di Fara.

New hours at Di Fara, if you didn't catch it are as follows:

Tuesday through Sunday, lunch from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; dinner from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Doors close at 8:30 p.m. Closed Mondays.

WHY oh WHY can't there be places like this in Atlanta?!?!

The first time you go to Difara, its like losing your virginity, you never forget it!

Admit it. You were gloating that you were inside and the others had their faces pressed to the window.

Bwwahahaha. I was!

I still find it staggering that all these places I went to as a kid now have cult status, doubtless preventing the next generation of kids from getting in.

@BaHa: If Dom doesn't teach his kids how to make the pizza there, the next generation of everyone else's kids won't have a Di Fara to try to get in to.

WHY oh WHY can't juliebugsmama move to NYC?

@Homer23 Waiting for that first slice at DiFara took a lot longer.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

When the daughter found out who I was she opened the door for me and allowed me in so I could review it myself. I loved it, but loved her attitude just as much! I gave it a 7 out of 8 slices!
