Dear Slice: 'Regarding the Album Packaging by Horse the Band'

Looks like the Jonas Brothers pizza video post started a cascade of email. The Mgmt.

20090428-ltj-pizzabox.jpgAdam,
Although the packaging by Horse the Band was fairly enjoyable, it was sorta already done years ago by Gainesville, Florida's Less Than Jake.

The record was called Rock and Roll Pizzeria. It was put out by No Idea Records and came in a hand-silk-screened pizza box with a magnet, guest check, and menu.

Around 1996.

Just a heads up.

Dear James,
Thanks for the heads-up. I somehow missed the Less Than Jake take on pizza packaging. Wish I would have picked that up back in the day, but I'm afraid my pizza-ephemera collection was nonexistent at the time. And I was probably spending what little disposable cash I had on obscure Pavement 7-inches in 1996.

I'm going to add that LTJ album to my eBay watches in case it ever comes up. Would be fun to add to the "Slice Pizza Museum."

Hasta la pizza,
Adam

Oh, and before anyone writes to me about Garcia, Grisman, and Rice's Pizza Tapes album, yes, I've seen it. Not really the same thing as the LTJ or Horse packaging though, as it only looked like a pizza box but was not packaged in a pizza box or mock pizza box.

It's Alive Records did this with NYC's The Steinways last year for their album "Unoriginal Recipe" as well.

@sosjtb: Seriously? How many of these posts am I going to have to do?!?

1996?? That was an ACTUAL album then.

All I know is that HORSE The Band could murder Less Than Jake in less than 20 seconds using only musical powers. Maybe also superpowers. They have them.

Best pizza-related band ever (they are really good regardless of pizza):
