Motorino, Artichoke Basille's Win 'Time Out New York' Eat Out Awards

Motorino's Margherita pizza.

Time Out New York held its Eat Out Awards last night, with a couple pizza categories. The magazine's web editors live-blogged it:

Best new artisanal pizza: Motorino, "for its Neapolitan pièce de résistance: a charred crust that’s airy yet elastic, sweet tomato sauce, and gooey pools of fior di latte mozzarella."

Best new pizza: Artichoke. "Said the Artichoke boys, 'We thought we lost. We want to thank our grandmother and grandfather. We thank our customers for making us No. 1. Pizza is in our hearts and in our veins!'"

Haha, bring on the Artichoke haters in 3, 2, 1...

Personally I think Artichoke's margherita slice is the best in Manhattan, but if anyone knows of a better slice I'm always looking. Keep in mind I'm talking slices, not a twenty something dollar personal pie.

Haven't tried Motorino yet, but I'm down with San Marzano's margherita pie lunch special as a top newcomer.

I agree, boomshanka, with one condition... when it's on. Artichoke has always been inconsistent, especially with their sicilian slices. to be fair, i haven't been in a few months, so maybe things have changed.

@ Boomshanks: I might posit that Joe's has a better margarhita slice than Artichoke. They're square slice is almost exactly identical, except that Joe's doesn't burn the edges as excessively at Artichoke.

Congratulations to Motorino. It's well deserved. Their toppings combined with an excellent crush put them at the top of the heap for me. I'll let you know on Saturday morning if I think Keste's Napoletanas will give the scooter pies a run for their money.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee
