I Don't Even Know What This Means

Quote of the Day"The pissaladières, baked in a wood-burning oven, reach out to the ever more rapacious ranks of pizza hounds..." Frank Bruni, in his review of Bar Artisanal

LOL -- well, you probably know that a pissaladiere is the south-of-France version of pizza (but I have a problem ingesting that first syllable). I think what it really means is that Mr. Bruni is so in love with his own writing style that he doesn't know when he's being silly. Pissaladieres (or pizzas, for that matter) don't 'reach out to' anything. They're inanimate!

Yeah. I know what the pissaladière is. Just was drawing a blank on who the ever more rapacious ranks of pizza hounds might be. Methinks Bruni also wanted to use some alliteration.

It's Brunispeak. I remember The Bruni Digest back in the day, Jules, the author, would tear through a statement like that with photo illustrations to boot.
