Quote of the Day: Thoughts Inspired by a $1 Tip

Quote of the Day"Here's your food. I wish I could have gotten it here sooner. Unfortunately, the good tippers got theirs in <30 and yours took almost twice that. Here's your two-liter of Mountain Dew. I wish I took it from the cooler instead of dry storage, and I wish I didn't shake it up in my car. Here's your pizza. I wish I ran the cutting blade all the way through it and put enough cheese and pepperonis on it." —thepizzaguy, on Tales from the Road

So true. The irony is that the ones who habitually tip badly usually feel that they are our most important customers. You get what you pay for and my chronic bad tippers get shaken up soda and cold pizza as well.

Here's news for you. That's the last pizza I get delivered.

Geez, talk about people with a expanded sense of their worth - pizza delivery people sure have it. IT'S YOUR JOB TO DELIVER THE PIZZA. If you don't like your pay, take it up with your Manager, don't mess with the food.

This is part of the reason I make my own pizza. I lived 4 blocks from the pizza place, but I had it delivered all the time anyway, because I was lazy and had a lot going on - I was usually in the middle of a 6 hour programming session.

I tip well. 20% is standard everywhere I go and to make it easier for the guy standing a the door, I gave 20% and rounded up to make it even dollars.

I got BS delivery. 60 minutes was standard. Pies were cold. I started picking up my pizza, then decided finally said "Geez, I'm ordering pizza 3-4 times a week; I gotta figure out how to make this". And for the last 25 years, I haven't ordered ONE pizza. I still eat pizza 3-4 times a week, though.

what did a 6 hour programming session mean 25 years ago?

@mooner can't speak for every delivery driver but 99% of my customers get excellent delivery from me...and even bad tippers get good (or fair) service when I have nothing better to do. I feel bad that your local drivers didn't see that you're a good tipper (of course this is the internet and you could be making that up) and provide you better service. It probably wasn't the driver's fault though. I would be willing to bet that they're getting sent out the door with semi-cold pies and with more than one delivery at a time. I'm glad that you've had better experiences with making your own pizza because I sure wouldn't want to deliver to you.

@canonizer, you think they didn't have computers 25 years ago?

@apizzagirl, why wouldn't you want to deliver to me? I gave 20%+ tips. Even when I got bad delivery and cold pizza. I've never stiffed anybody in my life.

THE POINT IS: just do your job. You have to be a real piece of work to do the stuff this guy did. It all evens out. You get some people who don't tip, you get some people who tip a LOT. You need to concentrate on just doing your job and stop with the little vendettas.
