In May, Famdoc suggested I do a poll on how often people eat pizza. Fast forward to today, and I think it might be fun to do a weekly poll. So let's boot it up.
I registered four as my vote, however when I go to Totonno's I can eat all eight, but I leave a significant portion of the crusts to take home and have the next morning for breakfast. Late owner/pizzaiolo Joel had suggested that I break them into small pieces and fry them up with eggs. I tried it and was very glad I did. I can hardly wait to try it again.
I registered four as well. I had New York City-style slices in mind--the kind they pull from the big pie behind the glass. Of course, the type of pizza is just the question, though. For a Minnesota pie, for example, I can eat the whole square-cut, cheese-laden mess, but why the hell would I want to?
And, naturally, the question asked how many i CAN eat, not how many I normally do or should eat. That's probably closer to two.
The question is rather ambiguous, because if we are talking New York slices, than it is probably 2 for me. But if we are talking slices from a typical full pizza pie, then I typically eat about 5.
Yeah. I know. The thought struck me on the commute in that it would depend. I normally do 2 if I eat at a typical slice joint, 3 if I get delivery from one. I can eat the whole pie (4 slices if it's a Neapolitan pie), and I can eat the whole pie if its a really thin-crust coal-oven place. Bad poll. Will do better next week.
all i have to say is ..and my friend Wu still makes a joke about it...
in my senior year of college (january 2000) we came back from a night of drinking and dancing and i...I SWEAR...devoured 2 slices with a few bites in a matter of a few seconds.
There was no competition....i was just a disgusting, starving, young animal....and that went on nightly with all my college friends.
i'm actually ashamed and disgusted with myself, thank you very much.

After suffering several decades long pizza withdrawal here in LA , I ate 4 Joe's fresh mozz slices(ordering one at a time) and loved it...they are very thin sliced though and I left less than disgustingly stuffed...I hesitate admitting that when I first went to the Las Vegas Grimaldi's(see my review here on Slice) I ate an entire half-margherita half sausage pie and was able to walk away without assistance and with no regrets!
Voted 3 - although I could eat a whole 12" neapolitan for example.
Amount of cheese and how soon out of the oven is a limiting factor for me. (Fresh mozz which has cooled, goes down like a rock w/ my digestive system).
I just decided to assume you meant what @brokenbuzz calls "behind the glass" slices. BTW, I like that terminology. It paints a very specific picture for me.
And my answer is 1. Because I usually have it for lunch. I'd probably have 2 if it was dinner time.
I answered 2, but that doesn't count picking from other people's plates: if you leave your crust over, I'm gonna grab it. If I'm having a really fine pie, then I might force three. Obviously, this applies to full-sized pies. Last night, for example, my daughter and I split a crimini mushroom pie at Toby's and we each had two slices, which is equivalent, I would say, to a single slice of a standard pizzeria pie.
For all of you who answered "8," I'll be treating your acid reflux in a few years.
One--I'm 35 years old, 5 feet tall and am more conscious about my waistline than I was when I was a kid. I actually wish they would cut pies into half-slices, so I could sample half of one flavor and half of another. When I was a chunky kid, I think sometimes I would eat three with a heavy topping like pepperoni.
Adam--not a bad poll, it's nice to hear people's qualified responses. It does depend on the size, amount of topping, even type of topping, and context (snack versus meal). No way you could include all of the variables in a poll, unless you made it yes/no--have you ever eaten a full size, standard pizza.
three to four slice a sitting for me but more if it is brick oven
i am trying to eat slower and chew more particularly if basil and garlic are involved
at mr.nino's in harrison nj i eat an entire personal pie no sweat but only 2 or 3 of what i consider the best sicilian in the world
at a mano in ridgewood ny an entire plain pi with no regrets
plain pies are the proofs of the puddings in my mind
keep on pizzing

Normal order is 3 slices. If i get a whole pie, my normal dinner is four slices. If I'm at Totonnos in Coney Island, make that six.

You touch my Totonno's crusts and some other doc is gonna be treating your broken fingers.
