'The Best Thing I Ever Ate' Pizza Episode

bianco-sign.jpg

The Pizza Rosa from Pizzeria Bianco is the best (pizza) thing that food writer John T. Edge has even eaten.

Philip G. (aka Prairie) calls our attention to the Food Network's Best Thing I Ever Ate episode on pizza, breaking down the list for us:

  • Ted Allen: Graziella's, Brooklyn, Pizza Arugula and Parmesan
  • Duff Goldman: Gino's East, Chicago, Sausage-Patty Style
  • Marc Summers: Osteria, Philadelphia Margherita pizza
  • Tyler Florence: Serious Pie, Seattle, chanterelle and truffle pizza
  • Alex Guarnaschelli: Five Points, New York City, yukon gold potato pizza. (Says Philip: "This oven is cool, btw. Need to head here. Not for this pizza though, yuck.")
  • Adam Gertler: Little Dom's, Los Angeles, breakfast pizza
  • John T. Edge: Pizzeria Bianco, Phoenix, Pizza Rosa. (Philip: "OK. Seriously, JTE was my favorite food writer before this. And now that he picked my favorite pizza joint in the world, good God.")
  • Aaron Sanchez: Max Brenner, New York City (and other locations), chocolate pizza. (I say: Seriously!? Does this thing even count as "pizza"?)

Philip again: "The episode was OK; I almost died when John T. came on. : )"

Me again: I think Ted Allen is right on about Graziella's. Damn fine pizza there. Though I haven't had the arugula and Parm pie.

The pizza episode of Best Thing I Ever Ate aired last night. If you missed it, don't worry. Like all things Food Network, it will repeat ad infinitum, ad nauseam. (Looks like the next airing is September 5, 2009, at 6 p.m. ET.)

I saw it and thought that both Graziella's and Osteria looked good. Gino's East--well, as a hamburger person, I guess I would have to give that a try, also. Funny, nothing about the NY place from last week where the lines are long and the pizza is all made by the owner. Sorry, the name escapes me but you all know which one I mean. Not much in the way of good pizza down here in South Florida, unfortunately. But, I always have hope... .

I live around the corner from Graziella's. It's pretty good for a neighborhood pie but nothing amazing. Ted also lives near by and I'm sure that fact influenced his pick.

well really now. the margherita or godfather from pizzeria bianco are tip top notch. no thanks to pistachio pizza. and the LINES! aye yi yi...there are secrets though. I've been eating chris' pies since he was in the town and country mall.

Fact of the matter is Aaron Sanchez should be disbarred (or whatever is the right word) from the food community. he's a disgrace. Max Brenners disgusting looking bread topped with chocolate and marshmallows? Seriously?

he lost any shred of credibility w/ that crazyass pizza.

And Gertler left too much crust behind to be deemed worthy! :)

Just went to Bianco on Thursday and Friday. Have to agree with JTE about the Rosa, it almost reminded me of DiFara's margherita, luscious and cheesy. The other favorite was the biancoverde, ricotta, fresh mozz, parm, and micro arugala. We added prosciutto. So rich!

This was Ted' second time picking Graziella's. Ok, we get it, you want to pump up your fave neighborhood spot. But seriously, arugula+parm pizza. Seriously? No.

Probably shouldn't talk about discrediting anyone before tasting what they recommended.

Thanks to the Slicemeister's note about it re-airing yesterday, I recorded it and just watched it. I love Chris Bianco's line about all the goodness coming from the burnt ones. Is that guy the Pizza Yoda or what? @Karol I like the combination of post-oven arugula and shaved Reggiano very much, but sans the tomato sauce. I sprinkle on lemon juice along with the olive oil instead and it's always well received. I made one last night with Prosciutto di Parma under the arugula. It was definitely my favorite of the night.

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

Chris Bianco is and always will be the Pontiff of Pizza...Why they went to Little Dom's for pizza in LA is a mystery...though i havent been there(Oops), Mozza would have been a better choice...even if you dont have a reservation, the Mozza 2 Go next door is a great place to pick up a pie or four and eat it while sittin on the hood of your car....
