Man 1: "You're in for a treat—this is a real Brooklyn experience." Man 2: "I know! I'm looking forward to it! Are you from Brooklyn?" Man 1: "Nah—I'm from Atlanta."
Look at the pictures where he's doing the basil-snipping thing. Looks like a good 1/3 of the pie is ruined by burnt cheese. Do people ever have the balls to reject a pizza at Di Fara? Seems like most of the pictures I've seen include some type of defective pizza like that one.
You know, that pizza does look like some dam burst and the cheese tried to ooze away like some lava flow before being scorched (right hand side of pizza).
That crust is definitely burnt on that side, period. And Adam posted a picture a while back where it looked like an entire half of the pizza had burnt crust. If that is the deal in two randon visits, you know it is happening on a somewhat regular basis. At $27 or so for a whole pie, that's simply not good enough.
WTF? Priced get raised, pies appear to be burnt in places and the amount of oil on the pizzas....the pizzas from recent pictures don't look like the pizza I was served just two months ago.
@Pblogger I don't know why you call him Mr. Berlin Wall, but I saw those pies too and I had to question if he really went to DiFara. The crusts were perfect.
@Paulie, from his Pizza Hut stuffed crust write up: "It was just sitting there on top, as if it were a cheesier version of the Berlin Wall, separating the crust from the rest of the pizza in a standoff to last the ages. Where is the love, cheese ring?"
There was a dam burst on that pizza we had, but it was only that one corner. The bottom of the crust wasn't burnt at all, actually. Just the parts where the cheese hit the floor of the oven. Actually, I found those slices to be better than the rest of the pie - the cheese overflow had protected the crust from drying out too much so it was the only section that wasn't too tough like the rest of the pie.
I did notice that a couple pies before that one, either his hand slipped on the peel, or the dough was stretched a little too thin, because the pizza came out of the oven with a big hole in the center. Dom quietly slipped it under the bar and whispered for his daughter to serve the un-hole-y parts of the holy pie as slices.
If that whole review sounded negative, it wasn't meant to be overtly so. The pizza was good - just not good enough to warrant the wait. Although the overheard conversation was classic :)
@GoodEater: Understood completely. I did not think the whole review sounded negative at all and you did mention the pizzas were good.....besides, even if the whole review were negative, you're certainly entitled to your own opinion.
That quote above shows you're naivete when it comes to pizza.
There are four pizza places between kings highway and Quentin roud on flatbush avenue, wich does not include two interloper chain places that have been there since before I was born. The idea of traveling to get pizza is a foreign notion if you were going to be in the area of New Park,LnB,Rosa's,or patseys you would stop in.

That's an instant classic!

I will attest to the fact that the pizzas today were perfect. The best i've had from Dom in 2009.
...and I don't mind the nickname Mr. Berlin Wall. : )

The overheard conversation was quite funny.
