Photo of the Day: Di Fara Through a Holga

Di Fara Holga

I've recently dusted off my old Holga 120s camera. The Holga is a cheap, toy camera favored by hipsters, who prize it for its shoddy construction and craptacular lens, both of which lead to light leaks and chromatic aberration.

I tried shooting photos of the actual pizza, but it was too dark inside to get any good shots. These shots are not any good, either.

Is a Holga anything like a Lomo?

I have an old Lomo...cheap, but the apeture would stay open as long as it took to develop a shot....great blur action for artistic shots and could get nice night time shots when held still.

If I recall correctly, I think the lens got cracked at the Fugazi 10yr Anniversary show in '98.....have to try and find it and see.

Forgot all about that old camera until now. Thanks Adam! --K

@Pizzablogger: Yes. Same idea as the Lomo. Except the Holga 120 takes 120mm film. But, yeah—the unpredictable nature of the exposures and the crappy camera build add to the appeal, same as with the Lomo.

Like many people using Holgas these days, I'm getting a little tired of digital. I've been taking the Holga around on pizza trips but have yet to get a really good picture of a pizza. Not that it matters. These cameras seem better for exterior shots of old pizzerias—instant nostalgia.

When did you take that picture? There is no line.

Awesome, man. I should take my old Agfa Billy out there for some WWII-style charm. or the Graflex.

I was at Di Fara recently and a guy was there taking pics with his high-end Nikon digital camera (I shouldn't talk, I've got one, too), and it just didn't feel right. Thanks for bringing back the film.
