How strange. During the Limelight's heyday I was but a hayseed in Kansas, but even I had heard of the place. It's being turned into a retail mini mall to be called Limelight Marketplace and, guess what? It's going to house Grimaldi's first Manhattan location, according to a press release emailed to Slice.
Grimaldi's Pizza will fill an approximately 1,200 square foot location off the 6th Avenue entrance to Limelight Marketplace, offering over a century of pizza-making traditions and tantalizing shoppers with the aroma of pizza and calzones baked to perfection in their signature coal burning oven. In addition to hosting a small indoor and outdoor seating area, Grimaldi's will operate a round-the-clock to-go window, providing midtown Manhattan with award winning pies 24 hours a day.
Now, I certainly know there's no coal oven in that deconsecrated church, so who knows how they're going to be able to put one in. But we'll see.
