This is a really great thread on Serious Eats Talk. I relate to it because I myself am planning a wedding. (Yes, there is pizza involved at mine.) I'll let Lisa Starr take it away and then give you the link so you can go give her advice:
There's no way I could ever really describe my love for pizza. Saying it's my favorite food is a serious understatement. And for all of the pizza snobs — I do in fact enjoy it in every form — I grew up in a really poor household where the cheap $3 frozen pizzas was a special meal to me.. anything in pizza form, really - a great sauce with perfect amounts of cheese on a bagel or toast even... I would kill for any of it. Frozen, delivery, homemade, you name it. I grew up and my tastes grew with me, but that love for pizza in any and all forms just never seemed to leave me.
But here's my dilemma. I'm beginning to plan a wedding. I have some time, but I'm getting everything together.. and a menu seems to be my biggest problem at the moment. It's going to be a somewhat classic, traditional and sophisticated wedding for the most part. My husband-to-be wants to serve chicken breast while I originally wanted a buffet (big family). But let's be honest... I want pizza! But serving pizza at this wedding? Doesn't quite go with the rest of the planned decor.
Does anyone have any ideas for me to fit some sort of pizza or pizza-like food on the menu? Something that would be a sophisticated feel and taste to fit with the rest of the wedding? I thought maybe a type of hors d'œuvre, but I got a cringe-feeling when I pictured Totino's pizza rolls with toothpicks — let's stay away from that!
