Inlaid among the shiny gold tiles is the name of the proprietor herself. Seriously, I thought the gleaming light was going to burst the camera lens. (OK. Maybe not.) But, damn, this thing is certainly the center of attention at Donatella's new joint.

You'd think they were communing with the oven, but they were simply telling visitors that the exterior remains cool while the oven chamber (wood-burning, natch) burns hot, hot, hot. That's third-generation Neapolitan pizza-maker Enzo Coccia at left and Ms. Donatella, of course, at right.
Enzo Coccia of Naples's Pizzeria La Notizia has mentored Donatella Arpaia through the planning, build-out, and training stages at Donatella's. Ms. Arpaia and her pizzaioli spent three months at Mr. Coccia's pizzeria learning their craft. He will be on hand during the actual opening of the pizzeria and then go back home to Italy.
