In the Village Voice's Best of 2010 issue, the alt-weekly's three food writers, Robert Sietsema, Sarah DiGregorio, and Rebecca Marx, name-check their top pizza picks of the year. Interesting to note is that Ms. Marx's is not necessarily a pizzeria:
Given that the city has of late been beset with a surplus of high-end pizzerias, it's easy to forget that the best pizzas don't necessarily require a wood-burning oven imported from Naples. And that's why the pies that Mark Bello teaches his students to make at Pizza a Casa are such a revelation.
Yes, Pizza a Casa, Mark Bello's "pizza self-sufficiency center," where you can take classes to learn how to make pizza in your conventional home oven, as well as buy the equipment to do so. This probably comes as welcome news to MPM'rs.

Mr. Sietsema goes for Totonno's, which reopened earlier this year after a fire damaged it in March of last year. And Ms. DiGregorio gives a shout-out to Roman-style newcomer Campo de'Fiori, saying, "You can't pick Di Fara or Motorino every year!" and that "With a thinnish, crusty-crunchy crust, it was a welcome antidote to all that wet, pillowy Neapolitan dough."
