Pizza Controversy in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn

A Neapolitan-style pizzeria opened by former Apprentice start Larry "The Russian" Veltman in Sheepshead Bay has debuted to some controversy. In an interview with Sheepshead Bites, Veltman is quoted as saying:

"Grimaldi's is crap. Di Fara awful. Totonno's garbage. You can't cook pizza using coal. It burns too hot and dries out the ingredients."

Controversy aside, it's interesting to note that wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza is making inroads into deep Brooklyn — you know, where people from Ohio and Kansas don't transplant to. As far as I can recall, the Naples trend hasn't made it much farther south than Park Slope or east of Bed-Stuy yet.

We might have to give this place a visit — especially since Veltman and partners envision creating a chain à la Chipotle or Panera Bread.
