Daily Slice: Libretto's Pizzeria, Murray Hill

Libretto's Pizza is in the heart of Murray Hill. It's a relaxed spot that brings me back to my post-collegiate days, when I valued an affordable place to eat pizza in a comfortable atmosphere. The lights are low, the tables are spaced far enough apart, and there are banquettes for stretching out.

The slice itself is classic New York-style, with a crust that's thin and crisp but doesn't crack when folded. Unfortunately, the toppings were bland and disappointing. I know that sauce had been applied to the slice at some point, because I could see it, but it did not leave any traces of flavor. The cheese was thinly applied and lacked any milky richness.

Would I return to Libretto's? Certainly, if I were getting together with someone in the neighborhood. The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and it's a pleasant place to spend some time.

But I doubt that I would remember what I ate afterward.
