You know how they say competition is good for the consumer? The thinking, of course, is that it forces competitors to up their respective games. Here's an example.

Portland Monthly magazine recently published a buttload of pizza stories in its March issue — everything from a timeline of pizza history in Portland to the magazine's picks in different categories (old-school Portland, new-school, etc.).

Here's the landing page for all the magazine's pizza articles: In Praise of Pizza. Lots of good stuff to get through there.

Wy'east Pizza, exterior

[Wy'east pizza operates out of a small travel trailer but still has a wood-fired oven inside.]

But Portland Monthly's alternative-weekly rival, Willamette Week, noticed some holes in the magazine's coverage and fired back with Ten Great Pizzas Portland Monthly Missed, which adds a number of pizzerias that even I have been to or had heard about (and I rarely get to Portland, folks).

I'm waiting for the Portland Mercury to chime in now. Given its snarky tone, maybe it could round up all the chain pizzerias these two missed.

But of course, folks, you don't have to rely on any of those rags to give you the straight dope on Portland pizza. Now that we've stepped up our coverage in the City of Roses, you can just let Slice guide your way.
