DC: Edan MacQuaid Out at Pizzeria Orso

Edan MacQuaid, we hardly knew ye. Seems the celebrated DC-area pizzaman is out at the well-received Pizzeria Orso in the DC suburb of Falls Church, Virginia. From a bit in the Washington Post:

Mary Alexander, the president of 2941, said "management differences" were at the root of the change. While she called MacQuaid "a phenomenol pizza maker," she said "We have a stable of talented pizza makers" at Orso. "We're committed to the pizza and the concept."

Any changes at the pizzeria -- revered for its thin, slightly sour and beautifully charred Neapolitan pies -- will be the result of listening to customers, including families with young children, Alexander says. Can a kid's menu be far behind?

Thea MacQuaid, Edan's wife and Orso's manager, was also dismissed.

Uh oh. While it's too early to say anything, it's never a good sign when management makes noise about viewing a pizzeria as a "concept."

Our idea of a great "concept"? Great pizza. Let's hope Orso can stay the course without MacQuaid (who, as you may remember, was for some time a force behind the masterful pizzas at DC's 2Amys).
