Truly Bigger Than Your Head
I always love when people describe a food as being "bigger than your head." For some reason I've heard it most often in regard to burritos, though I've never seen anyone with a burrito-shaped head. Anyway, I've long described Koronet as being "bigger than your head," and as it turns out, it's totally true. Here's a mirror shot of me with my slice. What you can't see is that my nose is actually touching the crust. These things are GINORMOUS, people.
Pre- and Post-Oven
In the audio clip I posted in the main part of this entry, Koronet co-owner Peter Manikis talks about how much work it is making these giant pies. Watching Sam make jumbo after jumbo, it really looked like a workout. And check this out, see the photo in the lower left-hand corner? That's a rack of finished pies. They absolutely crank out the pizza here. Which is one reason why they're pretty damn fast about dispensing with a line, even when, at lunch, it's out the door.
Gobs of Everything
Look at how big that stretched dough is! And there are like 2 ladlefuls of sauce on the pizza. As Nick Manikis says, "There's four times the cheese on this as would be on a regular-size pizza."
