Chain Reaction: Domino's New Sweet Mango Habanero Wings

While we think mom-and-pop shops make the best pizza in the nation, we'd be remiss if we didn't keep abreast of what the chains are up to. Suit up, it's time for another Chain Reaction, folks.

Domino's introduced a new wing recipe a few months back, and as much as we were dying to try them, we just didn't get around to it until now. But never fear! We ordered them for lunch last week (both in the new boneless and regular bone-in varieties).

How'd they fare? The regular bone-in wings, tossed in the new Mango Habanero sauce, were really soggy, and a bit spicier than we expected. Don't be fooled by the super-sweet mango flavor; there's a real burn there that sneaks up on you.

"These are terrible," Serious Eats overlord Ed Levine said.

But the new boneless wings seemed to have real chicken inside; there's a grain to the "100 percent whole white breast " meat. It was quite moist—even a bit watery, as if it had been brined too long.

The breading was a bit heavy on the black pepper for our taste. Dial it down, guys! We know you have a pepper mill!

Given the choice, we'd probably eat McDonald's Chicken McNuggets instead.
