As you know, Slice isn't the kind of place for rumormongering and speculation, but we can't very well ignore the situation swirling around Lucali and the knife fight that owner Mark Iacono got into with a longtime neighborhood acquaintance. When last we relayed this news, Iacono had been viciously stabbed on Friday in Carroll Gardens outside Joe's Superette, though the motive was unclear.

By Sunday, it had come out that his alleged assailant, Benny Geritano, had also been wounded and that both Geritano and Iacono were under arrest. Yesterday, Iacono was charged with attempted murder, assault, and weapons possession. Geritano was arraigned on the same charges on Sunday.

Today the New York Post, reports that the fight may have been over a woman, citing a source who says s/he heard Geritano tell Iacono to stay away from her. Iacono's friends tell the paper that he's a stand-up guy, a happily married one-woman man.

For now, according to Slice sources, there's a note up at Lucali saying the pizzeria is closed but will reopen soon. Let's hope this mess gets sorted out and it does.
