Brava! Pizzeria Della Strada is run out of a mobile wood-burning pizza oven with a semi-permanent home at the base of the clock tower at 16th and Arapahoe in downtown Denver. Owner and pizzaiolo David Bravdica will move his oven around town for catering jobs, but on most days you can find him cooking up 10" pizzas for less than $10.
I had the Sonny, which is topped with crushed San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, sausage from local salumeria Il Mondo Vecchio, and a little bit of Parmesan.
The crust is simply outstanding; it's crisp and chewy throughout, delightfully crunchy around the edges, and includes a salty punch. The crushed tomato sauce provided a particularly vibrant pairing with the creamy fresh mozzarella. The crumbled sausage was too lean and too lightly seasoned for my tastes, but even with that flaw, this was the best pizza I've had in Denver.
