I'm fortunate enough to live in a city where there's plenty of good pizza. Grabbing a slice on a whim while walking down 7th Avenue likely won't lead to serious disappointment. So you can imagine my surprise when I was disgusted by the cheese pizza at Whole Foods.
The crust was overly doughy and slightly under-baked, giving my jaw a bit of a workout as I chewed. The sauce was super sweet and chunky, lacking the acidic note that is crucial to a decent piece of pizza. Perhaps the worst part was the cheese; it was browned nicely, but the grease overwhelmed the saltiness of the mozzarella.
At best, it was a step up from Domino's—a taste that is all too ingrained in my mind from classmates birthday parties at the local bowling alley.
