Daily Slice gives a quick snapshot each weekday of a different slice or pie that the folks at the Serious Eats empire have enjoyed lately.
A typical New York slice is not what you get at Two Boots, though that's not always a bad thing. People don't seem so crazy about the local chain around these parts, and to some degree I understand. I do find that the quality between their locations seems to vary greatly (the Greenwich Avenue and Ave. A locations have never let me down), but for the most part Two Boots is a reliable place to grab a slice.
Plain slices here are fine—they're basically a classic New York slice with slightly spicy sauce and a coating of cornmeal on the crust. While that's a good way to go, it's hard to stay away from their slightly kitschy topping combinations, like the Cleopatra Jones ($3.50). Named for the title character of a 1973 blaxploitation film, it's topped with garlicky sweet Italian sausage, roasted bell peppers, and onions. Not the first time this combination has made its way onto a slice of pizza, but here the toppings are artfully applied so they don't overwhelm the cheese and sauce.
