Most of my French bread pizza memories are unhappy ones involving Stouffers and a microwave, but the Woodwork Pizza ($6) at Prospect Heights sports bar Woodwork gives me a new appreciation for the style. The crusty Balthazar Bakery bread crunches easily under the teeth, nothing you have to chomp down too hard on; there's marinara sauce and melted white American and gruyere with a smart shower of sharper Parmesan on top. You can add sopresatta for $2, and you should; its meaty, spicy oils seep into the bread and sauce and make the whole thing even better. There's nothing refined about it, but this is bar food, after all.
