Changes at Slice: Accounts Required for Commenting
So the little server hiccups and lack of comments the last few days seem to have been resolved. For those of you interested, that was all part of moving this site over to a new server—the same server that Serious Eats is on. As you may or may not know, Slice was acquired by Serious Eats late last year, and I began working on SE full-time as managing editor while maintaining my role as editor of Slice. While Serious Eats has been pretty hands-off about messing with the Slice formula, I did anticipate some changes for this site—among them the...Geek Stuff: Minor Maintenance
So this is just a heads-up for you all: We're going to be moving Slice over to a new server in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. As the files and such move to their new home, there might be some hiccups. Please bear with us. If you experience any weirdness, it should resolve itself pretty quickly. Thanks!...Robyn [Slices] NY!
And here's Robyn Lee, my Serious Eats colleague (she recently joined the team) and foodblogger extraordinaire, wearing her I [Slice] NY shirt. If you've already ordered: I've been plugging away, stuffing envelopes with shirts, and sending them out in dribs and drabs as time allows. The last batch is getting picked up tomorrow. So your shirts should come soon. (Note: Some folks' orders, however, are on backorder. If that's you, check your email. I've sent you details.) If you haven't ordered a shirt but want one: A bunch of you expressed interest after I had already ordered and received the shirts. C'mon, people! Early bird, ya know? At one point, I had rolled my own mashup Google pizza map, but when the Big Goog released its My Maps feature, I gave up trying to wrassle with code that I didn't quite understand anyway. I realized it would be easier to use the new feature to serve up Slice's local psearch info in a graphical way. I give thee the Slice Pizza Map (NYC Edition). I'm hoping Google keeps refining its technology. I'd like to see custom uploadable icons for place markers and also an easy way to embed My Maps into websites. Only time will tell....Here Comes 2007!
