Dear Slice: A Visit to Chuck E. Cheese as a Single, 29-Year-Old Male

Clicking in to the Slice inbox this morning, we've got a dispatch from the front lines of the mechpizza wars. It comes to use from Dustin M., who has written for us about the Flatbread Company in Maine and Aperitivo in Midtown Manhattan. —The Mgmt. Photograph from Eric Neely's Chuck E.'s photo series Hey Adam,Here is my true pizza confession from this past weekend...So this past Saturday afternoon I found myself deep in Queens having to take care of a few issues with the ex-lady's car (long story). And on top of that, I also had to pick her up...

Cops Called in to Break Up Fights at Wisconsin Chuck E. Cheese

Photograph from Eric Neely's Chuck E.'s photo series Chuck E. Cheese's is a weird place, but you already knew that. From the Wall Street Journal: In Brookfield, Wis., no restaurant has triggered more calls to the police department since last year than Chuck E. Cheese's. Officers have been called to break up 12 fights, some of them physical, at the child-oriented pizza parlor since January 2007. The biggest melee broke out in April, when an uninvited adult disrupted a child's birthday party. Seven officers arrived and found as many as 40 people knocking over chairs and yelling in front...

Atari Video Game Founder Also Responsible for Chuck E. Cheese

Did you know? Nolan Bushnell, at one point, was a very busy man. After founding Atari in 1972, he created Pizza Time Theater (now Chuck E. Cheese), where kids eat pizza while watching animatronic animals play music. While this has been common knowledge at Slice for ages, we've never mentioned it here for some reason. Now we have, and now you know. Related: Chuck E. Cheese Animatrons Hacked to Play Rap Song...

Rapping Chuck E. Cheese Animatrons

According to Boing Boing, "There is a movement of Chuck E. Cheese and Showbiz fans that are buying the old robots and setting them up in their homes or garages." The modified bots here have been programmed to rap Bubba Sparxxx's "Ms. New Booty." Here's a video from YouTube:...

You Can Dance if You Want To

No other pizza news of note to report on today, so we'll draw freaky Friday to a close with another YouTube vid from the House That Chuck Built. This one of a guy dancing along with the animatronic band. It even appears he's singing along, too. Seems like he's left this world behind, indeed....

Chuck E. Cheese Joins YouTube

Slice is gonna put a little freak in your Friday with this fan-produced YouTube vid of Chuck E. Cheese. (After the jump) But first, a quote from the video, so you know where this is headed: "You know, I joined this YouTube thing because I saw you kids were having some fun at my place, and I thought maybe I could have some fun, too. Go ahead and add me to your friends list, and I'll go ahead and add ya back. You know, we can have a little mutual thing. Heh heh heh." Update: Don't bother clicking through. The...

CREEP E. CHEESE A photo of Chuck E. Cheese, by Eric Neely, from his Chuck E. Cheese series. Thanks, Eric! Who knew you had to be at least 18 to get into Chuck E. Cheese's? The last time I went to the themepark-meets-arcade-meets-pizzeria playplace was for a friend's birthday party back in Third Grade. Under the auspices of an adult I was granted entre—oblivious to the fact that without parental supervision I would have been persona non grata in Mr. Cheese's domain. No, my perception was clouded by visions of skee-ball, Galaga, Elevator Action, and the prospect of watching creepy...

Bad Pizza Does Bad Things to People

AS BIG AS SOME OF THE RATS WE SEE IN NEW YORK A photo of Chuck E. Cheese doing what he does best—scaring the pants off the young tykes while annoying the hell out of parents. This photograph and the one below are courtesy of Eric Neely, from his series on the ridiculously sized rodent. Thanks, Eric! From the New York Times: A teenager dressed as pizza mascot Chuck E. Cheese was pelted with pizza and threatened with a beating by an angry parent who said the mascot wasn't paying enough attention to her child, police said. Macon police reported...
