Last week we mentioned that Wheated, the David Sheridan project slated to open in Ditmas Park in early 2013, suffered $30,000 worth of losses due to flooding from Sandy. Now you can help!
'David Sheridan' on Serious Eats
Hurricane Sandy delivered a nasty blow to the buildout progress of Ditmas Park's newest pizzeria, Wheated. The restaurant, as Adam mentioned in September, was slated to open their doors at 903 Church Ave in early 2013. And despite the hurricane laying waste to their Moretti Forni electric ovens in the form of total saltwater submersion, that is still the plan.
Wheated, a new pizzeria and cocktail bar, is slated to open in early 2013 in Ditmas Park. Some of you who read Slice may be familiar with one half of the couple behind the place: David Sheridan, who's sprouting Wheated with his wife, Kim McAdam. (We interviewed Sheridan here and had a backyard pizza tasting here.)
I interviewed David Sheridan yesterday for the latest installment of My Pizza Oven, but what I didn't mention is that David had actually invited me out to see him in action and taste the pizza fruits of his oven labor. Scott Wiener of Scott's Pizza Tours joined in on the fun, as well, helping us sample six pies. Peep the slideshow here for outtakes from the MPO photo shoot.
"I've roasted vegetables on post-pizza days and have used the oven as a smoker. I like the roasting in particular because it makes use of heat from the pizza firing. I want to try bread pretty soon and plan to cook a Thanksgiving turkey in there this year."
